"The 2016 edition of St. Michael-Eppan’s The Wine Collection showcases Pinot Noir. It’s currently closed in on itself but shaking off a bit of briny oak influence. With coaxing, the 2016 blossoms further to reveal notes of sour cherry, currant, rose petals, minty herbs and floral undergrowth. It impresses more on the palate at this youthful stage, opening up to a display of ripe red and hints of blue berries, with mineral underpinnings and bright acids, as savory spices slowly saturate. There’s a coating of fine tannin which lingers long, flexing the wine’s structural muscle, even as a core of ripe primary fruit holds firm. Give this a couple of years in the cellar, and then reap the rewards. Only 3,300 bottles were produced." VINOUS
